about

This CD was my second, and first experimental recording. In the mid 80s I learned how to operate a Synclavier - the first known Digital Works Station for music production. Somehow I was recommended to a wonderful entrepreneur who owned one and housed it at the Record Plant on West 44th St. I had the keys to the room and could use it odd hours when it wasn’t hired out and would regularly work on it all night. The two main pieces for this CD –Five for the City and Another Perspective were originally written on the Synclavier. Unfortunately no-one at the session could make sense of my hand written parts until they heard the demo I had created from the Synclav. I remember I didn’t want anyone to listen to the Syncalvier demo because I didn’t want them to get the wrong impression of what I was going for. It was extremely early in music sequencing and all of the parts, rhythms and feels where metronomically perfect which kills any sense of what a human feel is. Fortunately, I was playing with some of the most sensitive skilled musicians who listened and clearly found the point immediately.
